USB-C is the latest standard for charging and data transfer — it's faster, more powerful, and uses a smaller, reversible connector. USB-A is the older, larger type you're probably used to. Many of our sockets offer both ports, so you can charge all your devices.

A 45W charger typically charges faster than a 22W charger, however charging speeds will vary depending on the device and charging conditions, some factors to consider:

• Device capability: If the device supports fast charging of 45W or above, you will see faster charging than with a 22W socket. If the device can only accept 22W, then charging speed for your device will be the same. 

• Cable quality and type: The charging cable must support higher wattage for fast charging. 

• Battery management software: As the battery gets closer to full capacity, the device's software controls may slow down the charging speed to prevent damage, affecting the perceived charging speed difference between a 45W and a 22W charger.

The 22W & 45W sockets support both PD (USB Power Delivery) & QC (Qualcomm Quick Charge) for compatibility with the most popular brands*, whilst maintaining backwards compatibility for older devices that do not support PD or QC, but at lower, standard USB charging rate.

Variable Voltage sockets use built-in smart charging technology to communicate with the individual device, to only deliver the power a device needs, when it needs it. Meaning devices can charge from 0-50% or more, in as little as 30 minutes.

Variable Voltage follows three stages of charging:

• Stage 1: Where fast charging occurs – 50% in 30 minutes.
• Stage 2: The output slows as the battery nears full to protect battery health.
• Stage 3: Once the battery is fully charged a small charge will be offered periodically as a ‘top up’, whilst pushing the maximum output to the other USB Port.

This protects and prolongs battery life, by never overcharging connected devices.
